This is approximately (at minimum) what my hands would look like if I never had surgery. It might have been a lot worse but there's no way to know. My growth plates have since closed.
Mano osteo-chondromatosis is the rare form of a genetic disease that causes cartilage to grow at an exponential rate inside of small joints and then ossify into bone tumours or "chondromas".
Also, for the record, it took me 5 hours to make those bones out of sculpey.
Well, I had surgery when I was 1.5 (when they didn't know what it was, so the doctors in new jersey wanted to break bones and put them back together... luckily we found a surgeon in chicago that knew what was going on. I'm one of the only people left in America with this form of the disease).... and when I was 3 (had to relearn to walk, casts on both legs), 6, 10, 14, 16...
It's only horrible now because I have really bad carpal tunnel and tendonitis. But I don't mean to complain - in a way this photo is my last complaint. I wonder if the bones aren't quite detailed enough though/the layer of skin on top is too opaque.
now I just sort of barely use my left hand and pray men who are into hand massages want to date or marry me. ha!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
